From the Editor

While the Sanskrit word ‘maya’ is often translated to mean the world of illusion, it is a word that contains many meanings, used over centuries, from supernatural and other power, to sleep, to the unfathomable. The complexity of this is indicative of the complexity of our own relationships and interrelations with both our practice as well as the world in which we live. One of the goals of our practice in general is to develop greater skill and mastery in negotiating the world without becoming tangled in what can bind or blind us.

Practice is more than simply movement; it is also inquiry. Investigating and inquiring into the nature and meaning of the practice and how we can truly incorporate and integrate it into our lives, is a gift we can share with each other. The proliferation of yoga has also led to the production of a number of films exploring the journey. This weekend, Yoga Maya will have its first public showing, at the gorgeous studio space of NAAM Yoga. Coming up on June 18th, Yoga Is will also have a public screening. Every time we share conversations around practice, it increases the power and
potential of yoga in our lives and allows us to develop the skills we need for all 24 hours of our day, to see the truth amidst the illusion, and to live in the world with great skill and power.

Hope to see you in the theater,
Felicia

Yoga Maya Film Review and Premiere Party

Yoga MayaThis Saturday, June 7, at 8pm, be one of the first to see the screening of Yoga Maya, a film by Yogi Arvind.

This film was created to dissolve many of the myths and misunderstandings of what yoga really is. Yoga Maya gives clarity to how far the West has strayed from the true purpose of the yogic lifestyle and its many personal, spiritual, and mental benefits. This documentary is an excellent resource for the yoga-curious and those new to yoga. It inspires those of us already on the yogic path to further our quest for more knowledge about its life changing benefits.

CD Review - Moments from the Life Stories of Strangers, Part One

Luminous World OrchestraSteven Chesne with The Luminous World Orchestra

Brahmasong Records

Listening to this CD, you feel as if you are ensconced in a film. Musical swells and orchestral instrumentation are layered to create cycles of tension and release.

When one learns about Steven Chesne’s background, it all makes sense. Chesne has scored multiple films and over 300 episodes of primetime network TV shows, and recorded concertos, orchestral suites, tone poems, and more. That sensibility weaves its way into these recordings, as they offer soothing, picturesque tracks that convey deep emotional qualities, seemingly woven into stillness and spirit.
