From the Editor

Last night I had a conversation at dinner about the Yogananda documentary Awake. Part of what we shared was a mutual appreciation of the obstacles Yogananda faced on his mission to share the teachings of yoga, especially mediation, with people across the U.S. and beyond, who were just becoming ready to receive a completely new way of seeing the world and themselves in it.

We are in these moments all the time: facing our own, and others’ resistance, climbing over everything scattered across the obstacle course of our path, and preparing ourselves to see the world and everything in it with fresh eyes.

This is what practice gives us, whether it is Yoga Nidra (see Richard Miller’s powerful interview below), seeing a spiritual film, solo practice, or any of the events held to bring together community.

Remember that every day we face obstacles. And even if we’re a powerful master like Yogananda, we are not immune from the pebbles and boulders on the path. Keep walking.

See you on the road,
Felicia Marie Tomasko

Relax with iRest

“Starting a practice, like any journey, begins with an intention. Write down your intention for why you want to take up this practice, what you’d like to take away from it, and how you’d like it to impact your daily life. Then take up the initial practices of learning to sense and rotate your attention through your body. As you move into experiencing sensation, your thinking slows down and that alone can have a deeply restorative and relaxing effect. Take up the practice slowly and incrementally.”
