Standing on the outfield at Dodgers Stadium with 800 other people, practicing down dog. Yoga Day at the Dodgers is one of my favorite Summer moments. If you missed the first day in May, fortunately the popularity of the event means that this weekend (September 20), there is another opportunity to combine two of America’s passions: baseball and yoga for Yoga Day at Dodgers Stadium.

This weekend also marks the Autumn Equinox, one of the days of the year when we experience a day and night of equal length. It is one of the turning points of the seasonal cycle and a time to  reflect on how we take care of and nurture ourselves. Master of ritual and fire-keeper Shiva Rea offers a number of suggestions on how we can connect to our inner rhythms, and incorporate intention and the art of dedicating our practice to balance and to peace. Her Fall Equinox article can be read here.

Throughout the year, every day is an opportunity to rededicate ourselves to the balancing ritual of our practice, to quality time on the mat and in community, and to our focus on daily balance that becomes lifelong balance.

Stay Grounded

Celebrate the Fall Equinox

According the Shiva Rea, in the Fall Equinox, no matter if we’re in a country or urban setting, the sun is rising and setting differently, the plant world is peaking and drying, the colors are changing, our activities are shifting, and the world at large is also at a turning point.

Fall is the time to balance and nourish ourselves.
One of the 5 anchors for balance in the fall is:
Slow down: try not to eat on the run or multitask. Stay present and move mindfully and consciously.

Read more of the five anchors and other practices here.

Shiva Rea is offering two weekend practices to support the Fall Equinox.

Seaweed in Salad

Soaking the salty seaweed in sweet carrot juice was a tip I picked up from a seaweed harvester once. That was a great gift! This has been a favorite for many people over the years.

Vedic Astrology with Sam Geppi

September 14 – 20
The Moon is joined or hemmed between the difficult planets Rahu and Saturn. This monthly transit has been occurring since last November; during this time we may feel personal pressure, relationship stress, worry, and confusion. In particular, be vigilant September 19 and 20, when the Moon (joined with Saturn) is in Scorpio (where it is debilitated). This could be a toxic mix, but there is also enormous energy to transform toxic emotions into devotion.
