The moments that mark our lives:  Connecting to the Seasons.

No matter how many alarms, light sources, and electronics fill our lives, we are still inexorably connected to the rhythms of the natural world. The approach of the summer solstice is merely one reminder of this relationship. As we prepare to embrace and enjoy the longest day of the year, we have the opportunity to celebrate the sun’s gifts. Rituals revolving around the seasons offer us the opportunity to integrate life’s balance points, to harmonize nature’s tempos with our own.  No matter the walls we place around ourselves, we are still affected by the heartbeat of the Earth. Our best remedy is to tune ourselves to its cadence. Shiva Rea’s book TK is a collection of suggestions for how we can allow our pulse to align with the Earth. Ritual structures in our lives provide a container, a sense of safety and security, as we swim in the stream of life’s uncertainty. They can be the life raft, swimming bubbles, or a kick board propelling us through the water with ease.

Whatever you do to celebrate, go outside, place your feet on the Earth, gaze at the sky, dive into the water, and allow your practice to have meaning and joy.

Enjoy,
Felicia

Summer Rituals From Shiva Rea

Summer RitamAround the world, celebrations are synched with the summer solstice, June 21, the peak of the light, the longest day of the year. The summer solstice marks the peak of the uttarayana, the six-month period that begins with the winter solstice. The plant world grows from seed to fullness with the waxing light of the Sun, which strengthens and intensifies until the Summer Solstice.

How you can celebrate along with nature:

  • Create your home altar with the colors of the sun: choose brilliant golds, reds, and oranges in fabrics, fruit, and candles. Adorn your body with the Sun’s colors to bring brightness and radiance into your being.

  • In a journal or in meditation, reflect on your journey over the past six months. Remember the intentions you planted at winter solstice. What has transpired for you in this first half of the journey around the Sun?

CD Review: Igniting the Beauty

Igniting the BeautyIgniting the Beauty by: Brenda McMorrow

White Swan Records

Brenda McMorrow’s Igniting the Beauty captures the sweetness of the sacred sound experience. The title itself speaks to the unique beauty we all embody, the beauty that ignites our heart fire when we chant and sing mantras. The overall mood of Igniting the Beauty is devotional with a distinctly Americana feel for the sacred Sanskrit sounds.
