Turmeric is one of the most beloved of all the Ayurvedic herbs. Related to ginger, this deeply colored root is known for its potent anti-inflammatory properties that positively impact a variety of physiological processes. While it may be more well-known for the rich colors and flavors it imparts
to yellow curries, variations on the theme of turmeric milk-as well as adding the culinary herb to smoothies-are ways to add turmeric to your day that are both medicinal and delicious. Jason Wrobel shares his secrets below.

Speaking of secrets, on Saturday, July 26, the National Ayurvedic Medical Association is holding their one-day regional conference in the San Francisco Bay Area, at Rudramandir in Berkeley. Wisdom from a variety of teachers will be shared for both new and long-time students of Ayurveda. The word Ayurveda means science of life, and it offers teachings related to cultivating health and well-being on an ongoing basis through the power of personal routine (including adding turmeric to recipes) as well as our deeper experiences of rejuvenatation.

Taking time away from our usual routine to engage in our practice and focus on resetting our system is necessary for health and well-being. I’m partway to Lake Tahoe as I write this, gearing up to practice with the community at the Wanderlust Festival in Olympic Village. If you are looking for ways to take time away and recharge, we have a discount code for September’s Bhakti Fest, as well as information on tickets to the Big Bear and Santa Fe Yoga Festivals below. If you’re a diva, or just aspire to be, check out the end of summer experience in October titled “Be a Diva,” focused on the art of retreat.

But for now, just try some turmeric.

Cultivating health,
Felicia

CD Review: From Within

From WithinBy Nirinjan Kaur

Spirit Voyage

The mysterious power of sacred Naam, the sound current of the ocean of consciousness, is reflected powerfully in Nirinjan Kaur’s voice. She is accompanied here by Matthew Schoening and Ram Dass Khalsa: these musicians open your heart to a world of shabads in the Gurmukhi language along with ancient sacred mantras.

The mantras from this healing loving music move you from darkness into light, negativity into positivity, duality to divinity, and the finite to infinite. It is the golden key that helps you connect with your soul and realize love is everywhere.

Vedic Astrology: A Time of Creative Expansion

Sam GeppiThe Moon in Pisces joined Ketu, the South Node, is a time of creative expansion, and perhaps mystical experiences. Pisces is the sign in which we feel that transpersonal, cosmic pulse running through us. Ketu Is the most transpersonal force in the astrology chart, and literally the part of us that is not of this world.

We may also feel kind of spacey and may even indulge in drugs or alcohol at this time. Be careful; instead, connect to that deep inner space.
