From the Editor

The Fourth of July isn’t simply “the barbecue holiday”, it is a time when we reflect upon and celebrate independence. This is more than an ideology. When we take a moment to think about what this really means, it is profound. Our sense of freedom and our commitment to liberation are connected to, and enhanced by, our ability to develop and maintain our own inner resilience. We practice, in part, to develop this: the ability to free ourselves and to strengthen ourselves. We put this practice into action every day.

There is a wide variety of support available to us for our practice, from the ways we can celebrate the holiday with friends and family on the mat, to events and conferences including the upcoming Yoga Journal LIVE weekend in San Diego. We can fuel ourselves with recipes like Carolyn Scott-Hamilton’s Veggie Burger and practice adorned withOm Shanti’s Power Pants.

This week’s newsletter features a chance to win books related to the practice from Pacifica Graduate Institute, a giveaway for tickets to August’s Big Bear Yoga Festival, a valuable discount code for Yoga Journal LIVE as well as one for Bhakti Fest in September, a shout-out to global entrepreneur Didi from Chakras by didi for her participation at the Daytime Emmy Awards, and more. Our independence includes our recognition of our interdependence, how we support each other through the practice, and encourage each other to remember the joy in the journey.

Happy Fourth! Barbecue the Veggie Burgers,
Felicia

Vedic Astrology: Take Time to Notice Transitions and Shifts

Sam GeppiWe may feel a bit stuck on communication and future changes, as Mercury turns stationary and direct in Gemini, after being retrograde since June 8. We are in transition with our inner dialogue and recent adjustments, both inner and outer.

There may be new ways of doing business or communicating that have not yet taken root. Pay close attention to your instincts and notice how the voice in your head has subtly shifted since this time last month.
