From the Editor

We’re always packing for a journey, even when that journey is simply getting out of bed in the morning and embarking on the adventure of our day. Sometimes that journey takes us further than our yoga mat, our work, or our family, as is the case this weekend. Thousands are already making the journey out to Joshua Tree Retreat Center to immerse themselves in devotional space at Bhakti Fest West. Bhakti Fest tickets will be available at the door all weekend, if you’d like to join in on the fun.

When packing for an excursion like this, there are the essentials to help you enjoy the experience to the fullest: a water bottle (fill up regularly), sun protection (I’m packing my trusty Find Bliss cap), a yoga mat, and more. (You can read Sara Ivanhoe’s article on more tips to prepare for a festivalhere.) This might encourage you to also pack some essentials to help you stay in that devotional space when not at a festival but walking through daily life. In my car, I’m currently listening to Sean Johnson and the Wild Lotus Band’s latest transcendent and inspiring release, Unity, which also happens to be our CD giveaway this week. I constantly carry a small bottle of lavender oil for its cooling, burn-relieving, mood-elevating, and anti-inflammatory effects. And this time of year, sipping on peppermint tea can provide needed relief for mind and body.

How can these essentials act as remedies in a world that constantly seems to be spinning out of control? They provide us the fuel for our own resilience and fortitude, and the remedy of prayer, community, and group practice is the necessary food for our soul.

So, I hope to see you in the bhav, in the place of devotional attitude, the place we carry in our hearts that is fed by the power of practice.

Pack Well,
Felicia
